Current Market Outlook
BLOG POST: Our Current Market Outlook is “Market in an Uptrend” and our light is “green.“
A truly historic day for the stock market, and for our country! President Donald Trump will return to the White House in what appears to have been a strong sweep on election night.
Investors responded in a resounding way by sending the Dow Jones Industrial Average to its biggest single day post-election gain since 1896 – up over 3%! Several individual sectors rallied much more on hopes of a better business climate and reduced regulation- regional banks were up over 12%, for example. Truly historic!
Now all eyes will turn to the Fed for their next interest rate decision. That decision was uncharacteristically postponed until this Thursday as a result of the election day timing. One could arguably say that no further cuts are needed at this time and that the returning Trump Administration will enact policies that will be economically stimulating going forward. Many view last months half point cut as a political attempt to sway the outcome of the election and feel it was unnecessary economically. So what will they do on Thursday? In our opinion, another immediate cut may actually re-uncork the inflation genie.
The stock market is technically extended at this juncture but also jubilant. If we have learned anything in our years in the market, we have learned that trends can sometimes go on a lot longer than folks believe they can.
Our Current Market Outlook has been upgraded to “Market in an Uptrend” with a green light at the open (9:30am ET) today (November 6th) with the SPX @ 5,864.89. The Nasdaq and S&P 500 are well above their important 50-day mav’s and the trend remains up. Our Core Four now has 2 green & 2 yellow lights. The VIX has plunged below its 50-day mav and is the positive, and deciding, tie-breaker.
Enjoy the day and the blessing of new opportunities that lie before us. Begin to think longer term now as you plan your entries. But above all, always practice prudent risk management tactics.
“First of all, then, I urge that entreaties and prayers, petitions and thanksgivings, be made on behalf of all men, for kings and all who are in authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity. This is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.” 1 Timothy 2:1-4 NASB 1995
Game plan: Be hopeful. Seek unity. Begin thinking with a longer term mindset as you implement your action plan. We believe that Capitalism, personal freedom and our Republic won on Tuesday. Now, go do your part to make it great… not just for yourself but for others too. Ask for wisdom from Jesus. Please pray for the peace of Jerusalem (Psalm 122:6-7). May they prosper who love her.
